Byredo

The goal of this project was to study a meaningful design and its creator. Analyze what makes it significant and translate the insights into an engaging digital experience. Highlight the brilliance of their work, not the designer.

This project explores how Byredo's minimalistic design can be turned into a digital experience where users can use their personal memories to discover which Byredo perfume fits them. The goal was to create an interactive experience that reflects Byredo's simplicity and minimalism.

Process

This project follows the Design Thinking methodology: empathize, define, ideate, prototype & test. The focus was to understand Byredo's visual identity and create a meaningful design that would align with their brand.

01

Empathize

To guide the research, the defined design challenge was:

How can we design a minimalist experience for Byredo that helps users discover a fragrance based on their personal memories and emotions?

From this, the main research question was formulated:

How can an interactive digital experience translate the minimalist design language of Byredo into meaningful user interactions?

To support this, sub-questions were defined exploring Byredo's cap, bottle, label design, interactive elements, and target audience demographics. Research included visual identity analysis and a survey on perfume usage among young adults.

02

Define

The research was summarized into a persona to better understand user motivations and behaviour. This helped validate future decisions based on their preferences.

A project overview document was created to provide a clear overview of key elements and track progress.

03

Ideate

In the ideation phase, several concepts were explored ranging from personalization to storytelling. The goal was to come up with multiple ideas before narrowing it down to one. The chosen concept was selected based on research and persona fit with Byredo's target audience.

04

Prototype and Test

The prototyping phase began with sketching different layout ideas for the homepage and quiz section. Sketches helped plan the experience flow while maintaining Byredo's visual identity. These transformed into Figma prototypes for iteration and implementation.

Usability tests with four users evaluated if the flow was easy to identify and follow. Users expressed positive feedback on concept, colors and typography alignment with Byredo's identity. Key suggestions included adding music for immersion and making perfume visuals larger on the homepage.
